Society for Orthopaedic Traumatologic Sports Medicine - Gesellschaft für Orthopädisch-Traumatologische Sportmedizin (GOTS)

  • Description
  • The „Society for Orthopaedic Traumatologic Sports Medicine“ (Gesellschaft fuer Orthopaedisch-Traumatologische Sportmedizin, GOTS) is the world’s second largest coalition of specialists in sport orthopaedics. The GOTS is the number one in the treatment of sports injuries in Europe and guarantees reliability, competence, experience and outstanding quality of care for sports injured patients and athletes.

More than 1000 of the leading physicians in sport orthopaedic surgery of the German speaking countries are united in the GOTS. Beyond ensuring competent medical care for patients with sport injuries, the GOTS tries to set standards for treatment of sport orthopaedic injuries and consequences of physical strain and overuse. The annual meeting of the GOTS is the platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge.

Training and education of young doctors in orthopaedic sports medicine is an essential focus of the work of the GOTS. To achieve these goals, the GOTS offers a comprehensive education and training programs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and a fellowship program in Europe and Asia. Beyond that, the GOTS publishes the journal „Sportorthopaedie – Sporttraumatologie“ and the „GOTS-Manual der Sporttraumatologie“.

Thanks to the membership of physicians of various sport associations and of national Olympic teams the GOTS is closely connected with competitive sports medicine. The transfer of their experience and knowledge takes place as part of their annual educational course for medicine in competitive sports.
