Faculty of Engineering

  • Description
  • Vision

The Faculty of Engineering at Khon Kean University, is one of the leading institutions in the Mekong region that produces high quality engineers. The faculty aims to deliver engineering education at the most advanced level in order to assist the community in solving problems and pursuing well-balanced and sustainable development.

The Faculty of Engineering has the following missions: to produce high quality graduates who have excellent academic proficiency with good ethics and social responsibility; to create and disseminate scholarly engineering research to serve the community; to provide academic services to the community; and to support our cultural heritage, in order to continue the well-balanced and long-lasting development of the Northeastern region and the country.

Sustainable Infrastructure Research and Development Center (SIRDC)

The sustainable infrastructure research and development center (SIRDC) was established following the national and Khon Kaen University plan to bring together engineers, researchers, and experts in the fields of Construction Materials, Transportations, Information Technology, Geological Engineering, Water Engineering, Mechatronics, Logistics, and others to develop new technologies for the infrastructure development of the country. This is done in accordance with the national plan for sustainable and high quality urban development, while maintaining ecological-friendly environment. This plan will be very important for the development of economics, society, and environment of the Northeastern region, country, and the Greater Mekhong Sub — region.

Research Center for Environmental and Hazardous Substance Management (ESHM)

During the past decades, Thailand has been confronted with deterioration of natural resources and environmental pollution including water, air and solid wastes as well as hazardous wastes, derived largely from rapid expansion of the city, industries and other sectors. Even with legislative measures, only a portion of hazardous waste is properly managed. Although natural resources and environmental protection have been a national priority, research and development have not been well focused and integrated, particularly in the area of hazardous waste management.

Acknowledging this need, the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering under the support of Khon Kaen University and in collaboration with the National Center of Excellence for Environmental and Hazardous Waste Management (NCE-EHWM), has established the Research Center for Environmental and Hazardous Substance Management (EHSM). The Research Center aims to become Internationally recognized as a leading center for environmental management that has a strong academic capability, human resource development and R&D on environmental and hazardous substances management.

Industry/University Cooperative Research Center in Hard Disk Drive Component (HDD)

Thailand is the world largest hard disk drive manufacturer. This industry has been among the top 10 industries in the country since 1987. Since this industry relies on very high technology, research and development are still based in its mother countries like the United States and Japan. However, the manufacture is done in Thailand, and problems associated with manufacturing processes cause significant loss to the companies.

In order to minimize production cost in Thailand, there is a need to improve manufacturing processes to be suitable with the climate, geology, and labor quality in Thailand. Because of the aforementioned problems, the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center provides support for the Faculty of Engineering, Khon Kaen University to establish a dedicated research center for hard disk drive components.

This research center will strengthen academic and research activities. It will also lead to the development of personnel and students in the country by allowing transfer of high technology in both theory and practice. The center will ensure investors that Thailand is becoming the center of research in this field, which will lead to manufacturing cost minimization.

This Industry/University Cooperative Research Center in Hard Disk Drive Component is the first dedicated hard disk drive research center in Thailand and in Southeast Asia.

Agricultural Machinery and Postharvest Technology Research Center (AMPT)

The Agricultural Machinery and Postharvest Technology Research Center was established in 2002 for such purposes. It has become one of the dedicated research centers that aim to conduct research to create new knowledge and technologies that can be applied for the economical and social developments of the country. The center has a vision to be one of the highest quality research centers among the ASEAN countries. The center has 3 missions: to conduct research in the field of agricultural machinery and postharvest technology that is highly required by the community; to develop research at the graduate level in the fields of agricultural machinery and postharvest technology; and to provide academic services for users.
