  • Description
  • Johannes Kepler University (JKU) – A Young University On the Road to Success

Since its inception in 1966, the JKU has become a successful and innovative center for science, academics and society. Today, the JKU has become one of the largest educational institutions in Upper Austria and enjoys an international reputation not only in conducting base-knowledge research, but also in applied-oriented research.

The university offers interdisciplinary and hands-on educational programs designed to meet today’s business and societal needs and our cooperation agreements with over 300 partner universities in over 50 countries as well as over 120 professors and over 1800 academic faculty ensure superior research and study conditions.

The JKU Linz is ranked among the world’s best young universities (under 50 years). For the second year, the most recent “Times Higher Education 100 Under 50″ ranking placed the JKU among the Top 70 of the world’s best young universities (under 50 years). With nine active Christian Doppler laboratories on campus, the JKU is among the best universities in Austria.

The JKU Linz currently offers over 60 modern academic degree programs and makes extensive efforts to ensure the curricula are up-to-date. The JKU is also a leader in Austria in the field of distance teaching and E-Learning. The university has offered a multi-media program in Law since 2002. The “Multi-Media Studies Services SoWi” program – abbreviated MuSSS — allows students at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics & Business to complete part of their studies via distance learning.

In addition, the JKU offers continuing education programs for working students in cooperation with the FernUniversität in Hagen.

The JKU is an easily navigable campus-style university offering numerous services, including campus-wide WiFi. The new JKU Science Park is also a highlight for faculty, students and partners in industry and business: modern facilities located in three new buildings enable cutting-edge research and teaching at the highest level.

    Research Profile

The JKU focuses on research in Social and Economic Sciences, Law, Natural Sciences and Engineering and Human Medicine. Under the principle of research and teaching unity, the JKU makes important contributions to society, business, and culture through research and knowledge transfer.

    Research Quality

Academic research quality is subject to one of the most involved quality control systems that has been developed by one society. With its commitment to the European Charter for Researchers and the guidelines for good scientific practice at the JKU, the JKU strives to secure a high standard of research. The Office of Quality Management and Reporting provides conceptual work toward the development of systematic and documented quality management in relevant areas at the university, coordinating with the Rectorate on behalf of commissioned certification projects.

    Fields of Excellence

The 2013 – 2018 Development Plan has been divided into six fields of excellence. Content is on a broad basis and also highlights the areas in which JKU academics and scientists are internationally visible, conducting top-quality research. The Vice-Rector of Research and the Department of Research Strategy is responsible for decisions regarding the JKU’s research profile.

    Research Centers and Networks

As part of a collaboration with research centers and networks, the JKU cooperates with partners within the scientific community, local community, and local business community. These are some of the manny cooperation efforts:
