  • Interdisciplinary Student Association Diplomacy and Law - La Diplomatie et le Droit

    was established on University of Warsaw in 2006 by several students interested in connections between law and international politics.

    Tutor of the Association is Aleksander Gubrynowicz, Ph.D. and academic lecturer of the Institute of International Law of the Faculty of Law and Administration. In its activities, Association combines various academic disciplines and organises different kind of projects - student’s debates, meeting with experts (diplomats, journalists, officials), academic conferences.

    Main projects

    Academic conferences concerning import ant issues of law and international politics

    So far three editions took place. In 2008 title of the conference was: Did sovereignty become passé?. 20 students from 4 Polish universities participated in the event. In 2009 conference topic was Struggle for hegemony in postbipolar world. 24 students from 5 Polish universities participated in the event.

    In 2010 conference topic was Responsibility in international law. Edition of 2010 was international - except participants from Poland, students and PhD candidates from countries like Czech Republic, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Iran and Russia took part in the event. Altogether 36 students and Ph.D. students from 13 universities participated in the event.

    In 2011 conference topic was Role of Tribunals and Doctrine in International Law.Conference was international - except participants from Poland students from Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey took part in the event. Altogether 38 students from 10 universities participated in the conference.

    Participation in international student conferences of Model United Nations (MUN)

    MUN is the simulation of the sessions of organs and specialised agencies of United Nations, run according to the rules of procedure identical like in the real UN. Students become ambassadors of the member states of UN and debate on the issues of global politics. So far, members of the Association participated in MUN conferences in Geneva (2007), Oxford (2007, 2008), The Hague (2009), Barcelona (2009, 2011), Beirut (2009), Bonn (2009), Paris (2010).

    Association also organises Model Security Council at University of Warsaw. So far 2 conferences (2009 and 2011) took place.

    Publications

    Association regularly publishes books with articles of its members and the participants of the conferences. So far 3 books and 2 e-books has been published:

    • Sovereignty studies (Polish only)
    • Struggle for hegemony in postbipolar world (Polish only)
    • Responsibility in International Law (Polish and English)
