Vision 2015
In 2015 Edge Hill University will be a leading university of choice for students and for staff in the region. As a learning-led university we will be acknowledged for our excellence in supporting student learning, for our excellence in teaching, learning, research and advanced scholarship and for our continuing capacity for organisational learning and development. The University’s exemplary performance in increasing access and progression to higher education, and in supporting learning, will have achieved an international reputation in those areas.
Teaching and learning will be led by strong teams of academics and an extended network of learning support professionals. Learning will be innovative and flexible, supported by high quality resources in an environment which fosters independent and interdependent learning within a challenging and inclusive culture. Edge Hill graduates will be recognised as rounded professionals, as critical research-informed practitioners and as active citizens who can add value to their communities, to the socioeconomic development of the region, to the nation and beyond.
The University’s intellectual capital of advanced scholarship and research will inform teaching and its transactions with its communities. Research centres, each with a critical mass of self-sustaining research activity amongst staff and research students, and with developing levels of external income, will disseminate and promote their work. Knowledge Transfer activities, anticipating and responding to external demand, will draw on the work of these centres wherever possible. Edge Hill University will make a leading national research contribution to higher education practice.
Edge Hill, as an entrepreneurial and socially responsible University, will lead artistic, cultural and sport developments in the region and will have developed, building on its range of current partners, a network of academic and employer partners beyond the region. European and other international partnerships will prosper through the University’s growing reputation, and the University’s work will reflect its membership of the global community and the responsibilities which that implies.
The Ormskirk campus will continue to develop as the hub of a distributed learning network, and will provide a high quality learning, working, social and living environment. Other campuses and outreach centres in the region and beyond will provide support for learning wherever it is needed. All administrative services will be web-enabled and available on demand.
The University will be recognised for its contributions to enhancing quality and assuring standards. Central to the University’s learning culture will be the capacity to innovate, initiate and respond to change.
