Our previous conference at Massey University noted that we live in ‘crunch times’. We have experienced natural and financial disasters, nuclear and economic meltdown and momentous geo-political changes, and we face profound global, social, environmental challenges. Where to from here? What are our likely trajectories? What possibilities are open to us? What kind of social futures may lie ahead? Sociology was born out of the dramatic social transformations of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The 2011 conference theme, “looking forward: trends, horizons and utopias”, provides an occasion for our sociological community to consider our responses to our new transformative and precarious times and to the opportunities they afford us.
You are invited to submit papers on the conference theme but also on any other topic dear to your heart – in the tradition of our annual sociological conference. Postgraduate students are particularly welcome.
Presentation time slots are limited so we will be accepting no more than two presentations per author.
