ICICM’13 will be held from September 3-6, 2013 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. This conference is jointly organized by the Advanced Informatics School (UTM AIS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and the Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM), Multimedia University. This is the first time that UTM AIS and FCM are collaborating in organizing an international conference.
‘21st Century Living through Computing and Creativity’
This theme is aligned and suitable with the main discipline at UTM AIS (Informatics) and FCM, MMU (Creative Multimedia). The disciplines involved in creative multimedia reflect the current trend in research and industry. Creativity has become essential in today’s fast and changing digital world. It is through creativity value is added.
The aim of this conference is to showcase the current research in the computing and creative domains and to knowledge share with other peers from around the world. The concept surrounding the theme of the conference is that our lifestyle is strongly influenced by the myriad of digital applications from media aesthetics to photography, from entertainment to education through social media, digital media and others. We hope that researchers in these fields from all over the world to attend this exciting conference to promote intellectual discourse and to propagate the use of computing and creativity in our life and work place.
To allow the proper meeting of the minds between computing and creative fields, the conference provides both avenues that are suited to combine these complementary fields. Through this avenues of presentations participants of this conference will be able to have a fuller picture of the connection between the role computing and creativity has in our everyday life in the 21st Century and beyond.
Aside from paper presentations from local and international researchers, there will also be sessions for keynote speakers and exhibitions. A day before the conference, a pre-conference session will be held to provide opportunities for UTM AIS and FCM, MMU to organize workshops at the respective universities.
In aligning with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s vision, which is "to be recognised as a world-class centre of academia and technological excellence", and Multimedia University’s vision of becoming "to be a Top 100 University in Asia with Global Recognition by 2022", this conference provides an opportunity for local and international researchers to grow professionally as it provides a place where they can present their research findings in the area of informatics and creative multimedia.
We hope that ICICM’13 will be a successful and productive platform for idea sharing and exchanges between research contemporaries and innovative academic minds.

Multisensory Human Communication in the Hyperconnected
Summary: This talk outlines new facilities that are arising in the hyperconnected internet era within human media spaces. This allows new embodied interaction between humans, species, and computation both socially and physically, with the aim of novel interactive communication and entertainment. Humans can develop new types of communication environments using all the senses, including touch, taste, and smell, which can increase support for multi-person multi-modal interaction and remote presence. In this talk, we present an alternative ubiquitous computing environment and space based on an integrated design of real and virtual worlds. We discuss some different research prototype systems for interactive communication, culture, and play.
