Regional and global cooperation in educational research
You are invited to the 2012 joint International Conference of the Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE) and the Asia Pacific Educational Research Association (APERA). The conference will also host the 2012 Focal Meeting of the World Education Research Association (WERA).
The conference will be held at the University of Sydney, Australia from Sunday 2 to Thursday 6 December, 2012.
For the first time, educational researchers from Australia and the Asia-Pacific, as well as many other countries around the world, will have an opportunity to share local, national, regional and global perspectives. The conference theme of Regional and global cooperation in educational research, invites conference delegates to harness the momentum of this joint conference. Conferring with such wide ranging delegates offers a unique opportunity for the exchange of ideas and for fostering communication and collaboration on an international scale.
At a time of major change in the educational sectors worldwide, many of the issues of theory, policy and practice facing national education systems are shared across countries and regions. Working with national curricula, preparing teachers for the future, for professional learning and accreditation, and learning technology challenges are some of the key areas to excite impetus for shared research initiatives.

Submission to WERA Focal Meeting
The WERA Focal Meeting is embedded in AARE-APERA 2012. The detailed call for paper and symposia abstracts and the portal for submission of abstracts for the WERA Focal Meeting are on the WERA website. WERA symposia and paper sessions are intended to complement and extend those presented at the main conference under the AARE call. The WERA Focal Meeting seeks to feature research that includes more than one country or is comparative, cross-cultural, international, or transnational in conceptualisation, scope, or design. Abstracts for papers need to meet these criteria; symposia abstracts can include papers from single sites or countries as long as the presentations combined are from different countries and the aims of the symposium are anchored in worldwide or global issues. Duplicate submission through the AARE and WERA online submission systems is not allowed.
