    The 2014 edi­tion of the Annual Inter­na­tional Finance and Bank­ing Soci­ety (IFABS) Con­fer­ence is jointly orga­nized by the ISCTE Busi­ness School, ISCTE-​IUL Insti­tuto Uni­ver­sitário de Lis­boa, Uni­ver­sity of Leices­ter School of Man­age­ment, Cass Busi­ness School, City Uni­ver­sity and Uni­ver­sity of Molise in the beau­ti­ful city of Lis­bon, Por­tu­gal, on 18 – 20 June, 2014.

    IFABS is one of the world’s lead­ing organ­i­sa­tions ded­i­cated to the pro­mo­tion of research and under­stand­ing of bank­ing and finance. Estab­lished in the UK its pur­pose is to raise aware­ness of the impor­tance of bank­ing and finance for eco­nomic devel­op­ment and the well­be­ing of mem­bers of soci­ety. It achieves this by pro­vid­ing a forum for dis­cus­sion and crit­i­cal analy­sis of the major finan­cial and bank­ing chal­lenges and net­work­ing amongst aca­d­e­mics, policy-​makers, research stu­dents and practitioners.

    IFABS 2014 Awards

    The best paper drawn from the papers pre­sented at the IFABS 2014 Con­fer­ence will be the IFABS 2014 Best Paper Award. IFABS Best Doc­toral Paper Award will be given to the best paper writ­ten by a PhD stu­dent. IFABS Best Poster Paper Award will be given to the best poster pre­sented. All awards include an honorarium.

    Pre-​Conference Doc­toral Tutorial

    In con­nec­tion with the IFABS 2014 Con­fer­ence, a pre-​conference IFABS Doc­toral Tuto­r­ial will take place on 17 June, 2014, with the gen­er­ous sup­port of the ISCTE Busi­ness School.

    The Pre-​Conference Doc­toral Tuto­r­ial will be taught by Pro­fes­sor Robert (Bob) DeY­oung, Capi­tol Fed­eral Pro­fes­sor in Finan­cial Mar­kets and Insti­tu­tions at the Uni­ver­sity of Kansas, US. Prof DeY­oung is co-​Editor of the Jour­nal of Money, Credit and Bank­ing; and a Senior Research Fel­low at the FDIC’s Cen­ter for Finan­cial Research.

    There will be a ses­sion on “How to write world-​class papers” end of the tuto­r­ial. We acknowl­edge the sup­port of Else­vier for this spe­cial presentation.

    Pub­lish­ing Opportunity

    A spe­cial issue of the Jour­nal of Bank­ing and Finance (JBF) on the con­fer­ence theme will be pub­lished under the Guest Edi­tor­ship of Mohamed Azzim, Andrew Clare, Meryem Duy­gun, and Alberto Pozzolo.

    Papers sub­mit­ted for this spe­cial issue will undergo the nor­mal jour­nal review­ing process and the journal’s usual sub­mis­sion fee will apply. Authors whose papers are accepted for pre­sen­ta­tion at the con­fer­ence are encour­aged to sub­mit their papers to the JBF spe­cial issue.
