The International Academic Forum (IAFOR) in partnership with Waseda University (Japan), Birkbeck University of London (UK), The National Institute of Education (Singapore), The National University of Tainan (Taiwan), Lincoln University (UK), the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKSAR), Virginia Tech (USA), Auburn University (USA), and its global partners is proud to announce the Sixth Annual Asian Conference on Education, to be held on October 28-November 2, 2014, at the Rihga Royal Hotel and the adjoining Osaka International Conference Center in Osaka, Japan.
Transforming and Changing Education: Individuals, Communities, Societies
In this conference – one of a series of three held in 2014 on transforming and changing education – participants are invited to explore the ways in which education can transform and change individuals, communities and societies, and the ways in which individuals, communities and societies can change education policies and practices.
Abstracts should address one or more of the sub-themes below:
Identity
- how constructs of learners as ‘self’ and ‘other’ are negotiated around complexities of communities and societies
- how these constructs shape senses of ‘learner’ and ‘non-learner’ for individuals ‘
Constructions of knowledge
- how understandings of ‘knowledge’ are constructed for learners and teachers through multiple levels of meaning
- how hierarchies of ‘knowledge’ are determined and played out in communities and societies
Transformative pedagogies
- how transformative pedagogies can be developed and sustained
- how learners and teachers can use education to transform and change themselves, communities and/or societies
Role of educational institutions
- how educational institutions endorse and/or challenge binaries of self/other
- how hidden differences and inequalities are played out in education, and the pedagogical challenges this raises
We hope and expect the 2014 conference themes to inspire a number of research avenues, and look forward to discussing ideas, findings and synergies, in this International Academic Forum.
