6th EMBO Meeting 2015 Birmingham - Advancing the Life Sciences

  • Conference Call
  • You are kindly invited to participate in the 6th EMBO Meeting 2015 – Advancing the Life Sciences, which will be held on September 5 – 8, 2015 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

    Aims

The EMBO Meeting is an annual event held in Europe to promote the life sciences and the exchange of scientific results. The meeting encourages scientists to look beyond their own fields, engage with the international scientific community and explore interdisciplinary approaches to research in the life sciences. Participants experience new perspectives on topics that cover the entire range of the life sciences – from studies of molecules and the cell all the way up to investigation of larger, complex biological systems.

    The EMBO Meeting:

    • Fosters interactions among the community of life scientists in Europe and beyond
    • Allows scientists from all countries in Europe to hear talks by leading international researchers from all over the world
    • Helps to promote excellence in the life sciences to the widest possible audience
    • Provides young researchers with access to career opportunities through networking events and other career-related activities

    Keynote Lectures

    • Nuclear non-coding RNAs of viral and cellular origin: more surprises” – Joan A. Steitz, Yale University School of Medicine & HHMI, New Haven
    • The Serendipitous Path of Discovery: from Protein Folding to Cognition” – Peter Walter, University of California, San Francisco

    Highlights

    • Promotes the exchange of scientific results
    • Opportunity to learn about and be inspired by the latest developments in other scientific fields
    • More than 1000 attendees each year from more than 60 countries
    • Allows scientists from all countries in Europe access to some of the best international speakers in the life sciences
    • A large forum that includes twenty workshops and more than 90 speakers
    • One of the few meetings in Europe that covers all areas of the life sciences
    • Brings together some of the best researchers in the life sciences in an informal setting
    • Speakers range from young group leaders to Nobel laureates
    • An interdisciplinary forum that provides researchers with an opportunity to meet scientists from outside their own field
    • A dedicated career day for PhDs and postdoctoral researchers that offers access to counseling and training in specific skills
    • Possibility to discuss publishing issues with editors of scientific journals
    • Discussions on science and society as well as science policy issues, for example open access publishing, the role of science in advising politics, and excellence versus inclusion in research funding
