The Norwegian Research School in Medical Imaging (MedIm) and the Research Unit for Medical Imaging at the University of Tromsø/University Hospital of Northern Norway is kindly inviting you to participate in the 5th National PhD Conference in Medical Imaging 2013, held October 2-3, 2013 in Tromsø, Norway.
We are delighted to invite all PhD Candidates in the field of medical imaging from all Norwegian institutions to join us in Tromsø in October, to take part in the 5th National PhD Conference in Medical Imaging. In addition to the PhD Candidates, also Research Program Medical Students and a limited number of Post-doctoral fellows are invited to submit their abstracts.
Similar to the four previous PhD Conferences, we hope that principal investigators, supervisors and research oriented clinicians in the field will join the PhD candidates, to make this into an important annual meeting place for the whole field of medical imaging in Norway.
The number of participants is limited to 120. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, giving priority to MedIm members who have both registered and submitted their abstract.
Abstract and poster submission
Please see the abstract template for how the abstract should be organized.
We will accept abstracts from all PhD Candidates and Research Program Students within the relevant fields, as well as a select number of Post Doctoral Fellows. Those belonging to the latter group may contact MedIm for further info.
All abstracts within the broad field of medical imaging will be considered, including clinical studies and basic research. PhD-candidates in the initial phase of their studies and Research Program Students are also most welcome to participate. If your research so far has not produced publishable results, please see the abstract template for suggestions on how you can write your abstract.
An abstract committee will determine if your abstract is chosen for oral or poster presentation. Registration in MedIm is required prior to abstract submission.
In addition to four scientific sessions with high profiled invited speakers, the program hosts an innovative form of poster presentation: Speed poster presentations. These sessions brings the poster presenters more in touch with the plenary audience.
Prizes and Awards at the PhD Conference
We are happy to present a number of prizes:
- Best Oral Presentation – NOK 10,000
- Best Poster – NOK 10,000
Prizes will be given as a grant to the recipient's project, to be used for running costs in relation to the PhD project. The grant cannot be transferred to salary, but should be used to cover expenses incurring in relation to the research project.
In addition, all registered participants will receive an invitation to submit scientific images for a photo exhibition. These exhibitions have proved a great success over the last two years. Several of the PhD candidates who have submitted images have later been profiled in various media. If we receive enough high quality images to host an exhibition, a prize of NOK 5000 will be given to the best scientific image – selected by the participants by vote.

However, if you belong to the group of active participants, this information will only be used in case you do not show up at the hotel without cancellation.
