5th Annual International ATINER Conference on Urban Studies and Planning 2015 Athens

  • The Architecture & Engineering Research Unit in collaboration with the Social Sciences Research Division of the Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER) will organize its 5th Annual International Conference on Urban Studies and Planning on June 8 – 11, 2015 in Athens, Greece.

    Conference Topics

    The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars and students from all areas of Urban Studies and Planning and other related areas such economics, geography, sociology, real estate, construction, etc. Areas of interest include (but are not confined to):

    • Urbanization and suburbanization
    • Urbanism that includes urban geography, sociology and economics
    • Urban design and history of cities
    • Urban transportation
    • Urban infrastructure including public utilities
    • Urban regeneration including economic development
    • Local plans
    • Historic preservation
    • Environment, public open space and recreation
    • Housing
    • Community engagement
    • Planning management, implementation and enforcement
    • Planning systems and processes, information and policy analysis
    • Transportation Engineering
    • Town planning
    • Social Research examines the people who inhabit and use the spaces of architecture
    • Cultural Research studies place-​making and the norms of the inhabitants of natural and built places past, present, and future
    • Design Research considers the processes of shaping and making of places
    • Educational Research examines the pedagogies of urban studies and related fields


    Participation

    You may participate as panel organizer, presenter of one paper, chair a session or observer.

    Please submit an abstract Dr. Nicholas Patricios, Director, Engineering & Architecture Research Division, ATINER, Professor & Dean Emeritus, School of Architecture, University of Miami, USA. Abstracts should include the following: Title of Paper, Full Name(s), Affiliation, Current Position, an email address, and at least 3 keywords that best describe the subject of your submission. Decisions are reached within 4 weeks.

    If you want to participate without presenting a paper, i.e. organize a panel (session, mini conference), chair a session, review papers to be included in the conference proceedings or books, contribute to the editing of a book, or any other contribution, please send an email to Dr. Gregory T. Papanikos, President, ATINER & Honorary Professor, University of Stirling, UK.

    Special arrangements will be made with a local luxury hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized: A Greek night of entertainment with dinner, a special one-​day cruise to selected Greek islands, an archaeological tour of Athens and a one-​day visit to Delphi.
