We are looking forward to welcoming you to Jyväskylä, Finland for the 11th European Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ECIE) which will commence on September 15 – 16, 2016. Finland is globally recognised for its outstanding educational system and for many years our education and our teaching in particular has received worldwide acclaim. Interestingly, a small town in the center of Finland, called Jyväskylä can be regarded as the birthplace of the high quality Finnish teacher education. Even today JAMK Teacher College and the University of Jyväskylä are the most popular institutions for those who want to become teachers. Moreover, promoting entrepreneurship has gained a strong position in Finnish education.
We continuously and actively invest in entrepreneurship. In 2013 the local educational institutions in Jyväskylä created an overarching entrepreneurial strategy, which has been the source of inspiration for JAMK University of Applied Sciences and University of Jyväskylä to co-host ECIE.
The conference will broadly be organized around but not limited to the following:
- Sustainable (Ecological) Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Policy frameworks and impact of Science and Technology policy measures for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Regional Economic Development
- Human Resources (including Mobility issues) for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
- Entrepreneurial Learning and Education
- Open Innovation and External Knowledge Interactions
- Social networks in Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Corporate Finance and Financial Constraints for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
- Strategies, business models, processes and practices for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Management practices in Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship during Economic and Financial Crisis
- Value Creation, Product Development and Intellectual Property
Call for Papers
The conference provides an international opportunity for scientific discussion and collaboration on a broad range of relevant fertile areas associated to recent trends in innovation. Over the last years, there is a growing recognition in business environments of the key role played by innovation in the creation and success of businesses. In a dynamic environment, uncertain contexts like those we are currently experiencing, the capacity and necessary attitude for creating new firms is fundamental and the probability of success is largely determined by innovation. At the same time there is a growing recognition of the need of more sustainable innovation, combining economic, ecologic and social aspects. These challenges combined with limited internal resources and high risk and complexity enhance (social) networking in innovation and entrepreneurship. At the same time, policy makers face important challenges to stimulate and provide the necessary means for innovation and entrepreneurship.
We warmly invite practitioners, academics, and people in the field of policy making to present their research and to share their experiences in a broad range of areas related to the new trends in innovation and entrepreneurship. Topics can be related to all types of organizations (SMEs — YICs — spin-offs — MNEs – private and public research centres – Universities – Government Institutions).
Both innovation and entrepreneurship are generally under-researched and the advisory group for the conference invites submissions of both academic and practitioner papers on a wide range of topics and a wide range of scholarly approaches including theoretical and empirical papers employing qualitative, quantitative and critical methods. Academic research, case studies and work-in-progress/posters are welcomed approaches. PhD Research, proposals for roundtable discussions, non-academic contributions and product demonstrations based on the main themes are also invited.
Participants will be asked to vote for the best poster and a prize will be given for the poster receiving the highest number of votes. Additionally a prize will be awarded to the best PhD paper presented at the conference.
In addition to the main conference topics, the advisory group invites suggestions for mini tracks. If you would be interested in preparing and chairing a mini track, please contact the Conference Director, Sue Nugus.
Innovation & Entrepreneurship Teaching Excellence Awards
Sponsored by BDO Consulting
Innovation and entrepreneurship are among the most important issues which need to be mastered today to produce an effective 21st century society. To become an innovator or an entrepreneur demands difficult to acquire skills, which are sought after by many individuals and organisations. Some universities offer degrees or other courses in these subjects. Other universities incorporate innovation and entrepreneurship in a variety of different degrees. But whatever approach the university takes these topics are quite challenging to teach, and also difficult to research. Courses and modules on these subjects can be quite theoretical and sometimes they neither deliver the practical knowhow required, nor do they inspire students to become innovators or entrepreneurs.
Fortunately some good work is being done in this field in various parts of the world and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Teaching Excellence Awards competition will highlight such initiatives.
The 2015 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Teaching Excellence Awards, sponsored by BDO Consulting, provides a platform to highlight the most creative thinking with regards teaching Innovation and Entrepreneurship and thus contributing to the creation of more innovators and entrepreneurs. A total of 70 entrants from 39 countries have applied to be considered for these awards. Their case histories are based on university, school level or organisational situations.
The case histories will be judged by a panel of experienced entrepreneurs and academics. In order to select the final winners 12 case histories will be short listed and the authors of these will be invited to present their stories at the European Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. These case histories will be published in a book and made available to wide audiences. Click here to download full details.
